Trade the desert city for a magical seaside port village on this day trip to Essaouira. In a private car with an English-speaking driver, you’ll travel about 3 hours from Marrakech to this 18th-century town, originally designed as a Portuguese fishing village and now home to a thriving community of artists and musicians.
Visit the working port to watch Moroccan fishermen bring in their daily catch, pick your fish fresh off the boat, and have it grilled at a nearby stall for lunch. Wander the relaxed, easy-to-navigate medina — a mix of traditional souvenir shops and newer modern boutiques — without the pressure typical of Marrakech’s souks. Explore the ramparts lined with old cannons, meet the well-cared-for local street cats, and finish the day with a walk on the beach and a sunset over the Atlantic before heading back.
Essaouira is also the place to pick up pure argan oil, and the long beachfront is perfect for a stroll in the surf, a camel ride, or even a try at surfing.
